How do you discipline a puppy when she goes pottyon the carpet? Do you really need to discipline her?
My brother said to hit her and rub her nose in it, and slam her in the cage. I had an argument that, that is abusing, and it wont help. She’ll just go again. I mean, puppies have small bladders, they drink alot. But my puppy is only 8 weeks old. All i do when she pees on the carpet is clean it up and take her outside again. I just want to really know what to do if she does this again. Is my method alright? She barely pees in the house.
**Oh and another thing, Not sure if I really want to keep her. I said "I" because I’m the one always taking care of her, I do the food and walk her and play. All my brothers do is play with her. I want some help in her too. I want to keep her, But I worried about the care and whatever for her. I always wanted a puppy, my whole life. And this is a big chance. My parents never wanted a dog. Anyways a second question. do you think I should keep her?
if your under 18, that puppy is your parents responsibility…not yours or your brother. Your parents sound a bit irresponsible. Anyways…your brother is wrong. You never do that to a dog…just repeat what you are doing and continue taking her outside when she has an accident. If you are the only person that is caring of this puppy, maybe you should find it a new home with responsible ADULTS to care for her properly.
if your parents dont want her then how do you expect yourself to pay for food, vet bills, flea prevention and so on??? i sure hope they care for her they way she needs to be cared for

Disciplining is very important, but it isn’t so much "how" you discipline her as much as "when" you discipline her.
Think about it, if your dog knew she was doing something wrong, she wouldn’t have done it. So punishing her 30 minutes after it happens by throwing her in her cage will mean nothing to her because she won’t even remember breaking a rule.
So instead, wait until you catch her in the act, then come in scolding her, and pick her up and put her where you want her to use the restroom (outside?). Then, when she uses the bathroom outside, immediately reward her.
This lets her know that outside = good, and inside = bad. Also as a puppy she will have to go to the bathroom every few hours, so make sure you are there to take her out at that time.

This is what needs happen for house training a dog (I do not condone what your brother said, this causes an insecure dog, who will become aggressive and over-protective)
Take your dog out before and after every meal. Praise her very happily when she goes outside
Take her outside every hour, if she hasn’t eaten or drank.
After drinking anything, within 20 minutes she needs to go outside and potty.
Gradually, these can be maximized, and she will learn to hold it overnight.
YES KEEP THE DOG. People shouldn’t just get a puppy and decide to get rid of it. I’m sick of that. Keep the puppy, she will become a great, loving, companion for everyone.
