Exorcist: The BeginningExorcist: The Beginning (2004)

IMDB rating: 5.10

Plot: Father Lankester Merrin thinks that he has glimpsed the face of Evil. In the years following World War II, Merrin is relentlessly haunted by memories of the unspeakable brutality perpetrated against the innocent people of his parish during the War. In the wake of all the horror he has seen, both his faith in his fellow man and his faith in the Almighty have deserted him, and he can no longer honestly call himself a man of God. Merrin has traveled far from his native Holland in a desperate attempt to try to forget and escape all the evil that he had witnessed there. While currently in Cairo, Egypt, he is approached by a collector of rare antiquities and asked to participate in a British archeological excavation in the remote Turkana region of Kenya. They have unearthed something extraordinary and unusual…a Christian Byzantine church dating from the 5th century, long before Christianity arrived in East Africa, and in inexplicably perfect condition–like it had been buried immediately after it was completed. The collector wants Merrin, an Oxford-educated archeologist, to find an ancient relic hidden within the church before the British do. Interested, Merrin agrees to take the job. But beneath the church, something much older and malevolent sleeps, waiting to be awoken. When the archeologists start excavating, strange things begin occuring, and the local Turkana tribesmen who were hired to work refuse to enter the site. Things only get worse and worse, ultimately resulting in madness and death. Merrin watches helplessly as the atrocities of war are repeated against another innocent village–atrocities he had hoped and prayed never to see again. The blood of innocents flows freely on the East African plain, but the horror has only just begun. In the place where Evil was born, Merrin will finally see its true face.

Is my movie idea shot? (very long question)?
For the past year I have been slowly piecing together an idea for a movie series. The plot of the first movie goes something like this:

In the ultimate struggle between good and evil there are no victors… no losers… only casualties. This battle was raged for centuries across all scopes of the universe and it finally made it’s way to Earth. Three teenagers will embark on a journey that will embed them in this war, one to destroy the world 2 to save it.

In the midst of a unpredicted solar eclipse a young man Alister Cain becomes the host of a demon, the first missionary of Satan to pave the way for the rest of hell’s army. He gives Alister godlike abilities pertaining to darkness manipulation unmatched by anything ever seen before. The catch to these powers is that once the sun sets Alister loses his free will and the demon is free to control his body and do what he wants.

At the same time twin girls Missy and Tina (Artemis and Athena) are going through life in their small town in Kansas when a burst of light a couple of hours after the eclipse in NY knocks them out and teleports them to a mysterious place. There they are approached by an angelic figure who tells them that they are the last hope the world has of surviving, that they have to stop the darkness from flooding the world. They agree to help and receive light based powers similar to Alister’s. However the figure doesn’t reveal the nature of their enemy, until they see the demon wreaking havoc in the world.

They confront him but cannot see the person hidden behind the hood on the demon’s disguise. They begin an epic battle that rages for days (with interludes during the day when the demon flees) and when the demon is about to win the twins receive help from Alister who has a renewed vigor to fight for his freedom after being discouraged and driven mad from all the horrors he had to witness first person. What will happen when the twins unveil the hood to realize that their longtime friend is the demon. They have to choose between saving the world and saving Alister’s life from the rest of the world.
The movie name was to be either Hell’s Apprentice: Ascension or Hell’s Apprentice: The legend of the Grim reaper

Now Ive received several complaints about my plot: how it’s just a modern day version of the trojan war except that people don’t realize that the three teenagers are human therefore have morals, consciences and are not immortal like actual greek gods.

Second Ive gotten comparisons to Twilight: At first i thought WTF but in reality by accident i did copy one aspect from twilight is that there is a love triangle that affect a large portion of not only the plot of the first movie but also of subsequent ones so i cant really take it out.

Now a third roadblock has appeared and it’s entitled Cirque De freak: The vampire’s Assistant. If you watch the trailer the first half of it looks eerily similar to my plot.

Now for my real question.

I have actual motives for writing this. First i want to return movies to have actual moral lessons unlike some of the movies of today. Second this was a character i created when I was like 7 and I want this to be like an inspirational set of movies for teens to never give up on their dreams. Third it is a movie based on real character personalities and these movies are sort of reflections on the mistakes Ive made particularly when it comes to love. These movies are going to be a fantasy of what could of been but isn’t.

But should I continue to work on it or just drop it? Would teens 10-15 years from now want to watch a series like this (im only 18 now)? Will it get overly criticized as being the Vampire’s Assistant meets the Exorcist? Can my movie idea make it?

every movie idea has been done before and it is always a mixture of some movie with another. the main thing is that whatever mixture of movies that seem to add up to make your movie (although you didn’t intend it to be so) make sure it forms an original - if you get what i mean. you can mix two or movies ideas and still get an orginal.

i think your story structure is good but if you are aiming for a larger market you need to cut some corners because many things need explaining like meeting satan and god and demons and that and that and getting that and that…. many wider audiences want straightforward narrative with few corners.

but if you want audiences, like the lords of the ring becuase that one also has many subplots and missions with different corners. then i think your story stands a chance. but it has to be well written and each character, including unworldly creatures, has to well thought and developed.

OH! and i doubt it would be for 10 years old, it’s more like for young adult upwards like 15+. there is just too much stuff going on and character development that would have less to no interest to young children

Sound a lot like Night Watch and Day Watch
http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Night_Watch /70028896?trkid=222336&strkid=929183 586_1_0&strackid=5e7d8d29f75a374f_1_ srl

If you are really interested in writing a screenplay, read this and make sure it conforms to these standards, otherwise no one will read it.

Sounds more an Japanese anime. For a lot of fans, anime is the only word to get them interested. I don’t care for demonic stuff, but like movies (NOT demonic movies). So as a movie buff, I figured I’d give you some pointers.

What about a new, modern take on Romeo & Juliet? A ‘excommunicated’ KKK member is relocated to the city, where he inadvertently falls in love with a black girl. Forbidden love? I like it. Romantic comedy.
